In Snap Mail, all of your received mail, your outgoing mail, the log, and information about your preferences is kept in a file called “Snap MailBox,” which is in a folder called “Snap Mail 2.0 Files” in your Preferences Folder in the System Folder. Mail is encrypted in the mailbox so that it is not possible to read mail by examining the mailbox file with programs like “ResEdit” or “Fedit.”
If Snap Mail is loaded and there is currently no mailbox, Snap Mail will create one. You should not throw out your mailbox while Snap Mail is running. If you want to throw out your mailbox , first restart your Mac with the mouse button held down (during boot) to prevent Snap Mail from loading. It is then safe to throw out your mailbox file. You should only throw away the mailbox in exceptional cases.
If you do throw out your mailbox file and reboot, Snap Mail will allow you to restore your own identity. This allows you to still use your old name even though you have thrown out your mailbox.
If you want to move to a different computer and take your mail and the icons and groups you have defined with you, follow these steps:
1) Copy the “Snap Mail Files” folder onto a floppy disk.
2) Reboot your old computer and hold the mouse key down so that Snap Mail is not loaded.
3) Throw out the “Snap Mail 2.0 Files” folder on your old Mac.
4) Reboot your old Mac. When you are asked if you want to restore your old identity, click on the “Create New Identity” button. Be sure to do this or the next user of that Mac will be able to send mail as you and receive your mail, too.
5) Take the copy of your “Snap Mail 2.0 Files” folder on the floppy and copy it into the System Folder of your new computer. Restart your new Mac and your identity will be established on this computer.
